Boosting Self-Esteem

Many people have a vague idea about the term “self-esteem”, but what does the term really mean? Self-esteem is how one perceives or values themself based on personal beliefs or opinions. It can be difficult to change personal perceptions of yourself as we are our own biggest critics. Having self-confidence leads to a healthier mental space and lifestyle.
So, what leads to a negative perception of oneself also referred to as low self-esteem? There are a few examples which include:
-Bullying
-Prejudice/discrimination
-Pressure from social media
-Mental health difficulties
and much, much more. For some, it is easier to tear themselves down than to lift each other up which is why it is vital to reprogram our minds into boosting our self-esteem.
So, what are ways to manifest a more positive outlook upon ourselves and in return boost self-esteem? Self-esteem begins with looking within yourself. It is important to be happy with yourself first and foremost. Daily affirmations are an excellent way to highlight your self-worth because they shed light upon the positive things in your life in the midst of all the chaos and busyness.
You are worthy, You are enough, You are beautiful.
Doing what you love is also another great way to counter low self-esteem. People are happiest when they are doing something they love such as reading, exercising, playing a sport, or participating in a favorite hobby. Activities of the sort bring a sense of tranquility and make you feel good which are all essential in boosting your self esteem.
A large part of how you feel about yourself depends on the people you spend time with. Make sure you surround yourself with positive, uplifting people who will support you. It’s important to check in on your friends and be a shoulder for them to lean on during their time of need. Having a village will surely boost your esteem and confidence as receiving love from your peers adds much needed positivity to your life.
These techniques of boosting self-esteem are just simply a starting point, but it is extremely important to counter low self-esteem in order to be in a healthier space mentally, physically and emotionally.
